Sky Guard – Digital Manipulation

This one is my newest digital manipulation. Was fun working on it. It was a break from catalog photo retouching. It’s pretty realistic, but still felt like a nice creative breeze.

It’s not my first action style manipulation, but in this one I especially like colors. They play huge role creating depth and and brings this image to life. The most difficult thing for this one was finding all details: carrier, airplanes, model, sky etc. It seemed that I won’t be able to find what I was looking for. Luckily one of my fellow artists came to help and the end result is great.

Poseidon – digital manipulation

It’s been a while since I wrote. Since I started to go to university and continued working as digital retoucher I really didn’t had enough time to do it. Enough excuses, let’s get down to business. This time I would like to share one of my digital manipulations. Here it is:

Photographer: DMacstudios

Model: Vanessa Wedge

I think I created this one three, maybe four years ago. As you can see I changed the background in to New York City. I don’t really remember why did I chose exactly this one but I guess I just liked it. Once the background was set I decided to make it look alive with rain and lightning bolts. I removed the cape from the models back and changed the sword in to trident. During retouching I had an idea to make it look as model is controlling the storm and trident as a symbol of water was the best choice for it. In the end I added water spatter around model and the weapon to make it look as it’s moving in circle. The most challenging part was colors, shadows and levels. All photos that I have used were very different in that matter and to blend them was not an easy task, but I was very satisfied with end result. This photo manipulation looks so alive that it makes one of my favorite works.

Saint Floridan Day

Hey, this time I decided to share few images that I took some time ago on Saint Floridan day during firefighters parade. Nothing too fancy. I was using Canon 60D and nifty fifty lens. Here are few images:

I noticed that other photographers were using telephoto zoom lenses. Guess these kind of lenses are the best choice for this kind event. Also after seeing photos I realized that I’m far from being a professional photographer. Composition of shots are really bad. Why would I take shots that look like that?

I don’t expect that every shot I take is going to be perfect, but then in one hundred pics there are  three or four that I like it’s not hard to get what is wrong. Still it was fun, running next to marching firefighters, catching breath, sweating through my shirt, getting to “that best spot” or taking image from “that best angle” was really good experience. There are some shots that I really like and I learned few things as well. If I could I would do it any day again.

My first photo shoot

Hello, it’s been a while since I wrote. I will try to make updates more often. I’m aiming to do it at least once, if possible twice a week. This time I decided to share and give back story to one of my first modeling attempts.

1evil web

This image was taken few years ago. We were using construction lamp to produce more dramatic shadows. It wasn’t by choice. Then we didn’t have any professional photography lighting equipment or fancy Canon EOS 5D Mark III instead we were using just simple Pentax camera. I don’t know what exact camera settings photographer was using, but then I really didn’t know anything about photography. Photographer had an idea to make me look like savage creature, eating some bird or other small animal with fevers. Funny thing, we did not have any fevers so I made small hole in my brother’s pillow and took some. I don’t think he ever found out about it. As you can obviously see I was painted in black, but we weren’t using body paint. The reason is that it’s quite expensive and we didn’t have any budget. So instead we used gouache. I always thought that models don’t do anything just stand or sit and that’s it, but it’s actually not that easy. Plus heat from the construction light and taste of fevers are not most pleasant things, but the end result was amazing. This is one of my favorite photos of me. For this amazing image I’m thankful to Ausra Kel. She is truly amazing photographer and more important love of my life. The whole image idea was hers and I was just lucky she chose me as her model.

Here are some other images from this photo shoot:

Once upon a time…

Ausra Kel

Hey, I’m Ausra photographer and digital artist. I recently decided to re-start writing my blog. One night my mind was racing with thoughts and I couldn’t sleep. My boyfriend Alec was sleeping next to me snoring and that is when I thought of this photo story with little tiny silly being as the main character. Of course, Alec had to be the tiny human this character is based on him. Come on board if you want to see what fun adventures he will get himself into. Here is the first photo (chapter):

Once upon a time 01

Once upon a time, the strangest thing happened. I was working with my computer for 16 hours straight when exhaustion kicked in and I fell asleep on my keyboard. Suddenly I heard a button click and felt a touch on my cheek. I thought it was nothing and didn’t even bother to open my eyes. I heard…

Why anybody would be interested?

I asked myself a question today. Why this blog should be interesting to read? Or why my images should be interesting to look at? There are thousands if not tens of thousands bloggers, digital artists, photographers and models. Bigger part of them makes their content or works public and their blogs, digital works or photos are better than mine. So why in the world anyone will be interested in my stuff? I guess people shouldn’t be. I don’t even consider myself to be a true professional. Everything I do that I have mentioned above I do it for fun. I just enjoy it and it lets me grow as a person. Looking back two years I didn’t know how to create such digital manipulations nor had any idea what is shutter speed and now I know. Not only I improved my skills doing what I like, but I have grown as a person as well. I look at these things differently or from a different perspective. So this is my answer why anyone would be interested in what I do. All of it, it’s not only for you it’s for me as well. I want to learn more, be better at what I do and if I can give to others some knowledge or even help them to “grow” themselves using blogging, digital art, photography and modeling as a catalyst, that’s worthy reason for me.
